Operating Tips

“Follow these instructions carefully to avoid seriously damaging your Chef grill and causing injury to yourself, others, and to property:”

  1. Assemble your Chef braai following the assembly instructions carefully. There are no spare parts supplied with this Chef Grill. Once fully assembled you should have no spare parts left unused.
  2. Connect the gas hose and regulator to the grill, ensuring a tight seal.
  3. Connect the regulator to the cylinder valve.
  4. Turn all the control knobs to the OFF position before turning on the gas supply to the appliance.

Piezo Push Button Ignition

    1. Ensure all the control knobs are in the OFF position.
    2. Connect the gas cylinder to the braai.
    3. Connect the regulator to the cylinder valve.
    4. Turn all the control knobs to the OFF position before turning on the gas supply to the appliance.
    5. Do a leak test before operation as follows:
      – Using a solution of 50 / 50 water / dish wash liquid, check by brushing the solution on all joints.
      – Any bubbles appearing will indicate a leak. Re-tighten clamps or connection nuts.
      – If a leak persists, do not use the grill, but contact your local dealer
    6. To light the right hand burner, turning it anti-clockwise to the FULL position and then pressing the ignition button.
    7. This will light the right hand burner. If it fails to light, repeat this process.
    8. Adjust to the required heat setting.
    9. Always light your grill in sequence from right to left. The burner will cross ignite from the burner to its left.
    10. If the burner has not lit after two attempts, turn gas control to the OFF position and wait 5 minutes before retrying the ignition sequence.
    11. If the burner does not stay alight, please repeat step 4.
    12. Once the burner is lit, adjust the heat by turning the knob to the required setting.
    13. To turn the grill off, FIRST close the gas cylinder valve, and once the flames are extinguished, then turn all the control knobs to the OFF position.

Side Burner Lighting (if applicable)

  1. Ensure all the control knobs are in the OFF position.
  2. Connect the gas cylinder to the grill.
  3. Turn on the gas supply at the cylinder valve.
  4. Do a leak test before operation as follows:
    – Using a solution of 50/50 water/dishwashing liquid, check by brushing the solution on all joints.
    – Any bubbles appearing will indicate a leak.
    – Re-tighten clamps or connection nuts.
    – If a leak persists, do not use the grill, but contact your local dealer.
  5. To light the burner, turn anti clock wise to the FULL position, and push the igniter, where an audible click will be heard, which should light the burner.
  6. If the burner is not burning, repeat this process. Adjust to the required heat setting.
  7. If the burner has not lit after two attempts, turn gas control to OFF and wait 5 minutes before retrying the ignition sequence.
  8. If the burner does not stay alight, please repeat step 4.
  9. If you are only using the side burner, to turn it off, FIRST close the cylinder valve and then turn all the control knobs on the grill and side burner to the OFF position once the flames have been extinguished.

Connecting The Gas Cylinder To The Appliance

  1. Ensure all the control knobs are in the OFF position.
